Yes, the problem seems to go away after about 30 minutes of driving. It
seems to be most prevelent during the first 20 minutes of driving--'course
the car is pretty warm by that time. At idle and at steady speed it's fine.
It tends to happen if I'm at a low RPM in 1st, 2nd, 3rd gears and starting
to accelerate. It's very weird because I've tried to make the bucking occur
in order to get a better feeling for what's going on, but it won't do it
when I try. It just surprises me when it happens--even though I'm expecting
it to happen every time, it still surprises me!
Also, "bucking" may not be the best description. Fellow lister, Aaron Ness
used the words "shudder violently" which better describes the problem. But
it is very quick, and occurs in for only about one second each time.
I'm going to go down and check for leaks in the intake. Due to
recommendations from other listers, and in order to do the cheapest/easiest
things first, my next step will to be to replace the plug wires and swap out
the coil with the one on my Rabbit GTI.
Thanks,
Theron
