Good call.  Whenever a mechanic says something like that to me, I just walk 
out the door.  I have seen some work "pro" mechanics have done to VW's... not 
always pretty.  Not to say I don't trust most mechanics ability to work on 
VW's... you just have to be very very careful.  My favorite thing to do, is 
watch the tire people jack up my car from the floorboards.  It just warms my 
heart I tell you!  and it is so great that they accept your advice, like 
"NO!!! thats not the frame!!!"  or "STOP!!!"  

Put it this way:  I have had 4 Sciroccos.  3 MKII's, all of which have 
floorpan damage.
BTW:  no damage happend on my watch!
