oil pump prime

Hi All,
I've gotten my oil pan down in the Audi. That is a 1.7L.. There was
about a tablespoon of some small dirt pieces in the pan. I'm also
checking the pump. How should I prime it? Should I use grease?  It would
seem that oil would run right out. Any other tips?
