Big time oil leakies!!!!!
Okay kids, try your hand at this one....
I was on my way home this evening from work, and my oil light started
flickering (normal, I have a bad sender). I checked my pressure gauge,
and it read a good 4 bar (the engine and oil were cold, so it was a
little high, again, normal). Then, the gauge needle started, um,
flickering, for a lack of a better term. Bouncing up and down (within a
bar or so), but steadily declining. I watched it close, thinking maybe
either my gauge or sender was going bad (seeing as how it's been cold
the past couple a weeks, and I've never had any pressure problems prior
to this). Then, it drops to zero, and I turned the radio off, to
listen. I heard clicking and clattering, so I pulled over (it was a
dark and cold night, on the Interstate, muwahahahahaha). I smelled the
distinct smell of hot oil, so I'm like 'Shit, what now??' (I have a VERY
bad history with this car). I got out, grabbed the Maglite, and popped
the hood. There is oil EVERYWHERE underneath the car, it coated the oil
pan and everything rearwards. The filter has some oil on it, and there
is oil around the oil temp/coolant temp sensors (looks like it just
splashed up from wherever the leak was). I know the oil came from
underneath the car, and I'm thinking that my oil pan gasket went bad and
all my oil spewed out. I was also thinking filter gasket, but the oil
wasn't that bad on the filter, it's a new filter (around 600 miles on
the last oil change), and it was tight.
So, whatcha think? Any ideas? And, once I get it fixed, what should I
be worried about when I start it back up? Hopefully there was no engine
damage, but I dunno....
Wish me luck!!
