Brett and T. Berk made very complete lists... hard to expand on that any.
BUT, I must speak to the sometimes frustrating experience of buying parts
from the ETKA part numbers.
Sometimes the ETKA is not correct.
For example, the Etka lists an EXTREMELY short M10x28 exhaust to downpipe
stud (part #044 520 3)-- it just WON'T WORK ! The parts CD also fails to
note that there were (at least) three different and non-interchangeable
intermediate shafts over the production run of the 16V... If you are planning
on getting new bolts (always a good idea IMO) you had best size the old ones
before buying from the electronic catalog... Also, if you plan on buying the
gaskets and such from the dealer, expect to be wallet raped....
I love the reference to the "twisty metal pipe that runs from the firewall to
down near the waterpump"... I've tried to think of a shorter name for the
damn thing but that term really says it all. Many high mileage (and
neglected) VWs tend to accumulate thick scale in these pipes and making sure
yours is clean is an excellent heads up reference. Another thing worth saying
about "the pipe", is if you plan on using an external oil cooler, either the
Euro one (if you have the right flange style) or a sandwich style adapter--
you will need to block off the tee in the pipe that goes to the small factory
heat exchanger, as well as get a different hose from the frontside of the
head to the waterpump (without a tee).
Looking over the list, there was only a few things that you are doing
different from my 16V rebuild. One item that I think is worthwhile, but not
on your list, is a VW Motorsports windage tray with the integral rubber
gasket.
For that new clutch, I would recommend getting new pressure plate and
flywheel bolts as well as replacing the tranny main and pushrod seals (while
you are there). You may have meant these parts under "clutch install kit"...
I'm also wondering why there was all the go fast and cornering stuff but no
brake upgrades? Kamikaze Phil? I know the 16V brakes are pretty good stock,
but there are lots of pad and rotor combos on the market-- and honestly-- I
think your dollars spent thermal barrier coating the intake and exhaust will
net you less performance gain than having your calipers, rotor edges and pad
backs done in a combination barrier/dispersant. (Note: I had my intake and
exhaust coated too!) And if you are ever in need of a sweet deal on a set of
Corrado brakes or 11" adapters-- let me know...
Good Luck,
Danny
