Going 2.0 liters? 1.8 is still OK, esp if balanced and such.

Upgrade to a rubber one (w/ new studs) from the cork leaky old style.
Corrados used the newer style gasket. Plus it's reusable.

What's TB? (duh, dunno- Thermal Barrier?)

Can you get the crank & flywheel balanced as a unit?

 
Good stuff, let me see what I can come up with to add:

knife edge crank, shot peened piston arms, balance every d*mn thing,
powder coat anything that comes apart; Alt case, etc., Recondition
engine bay while it's out- POR-15 under the battery tray and wax the
whole bay after a deep cleaning, uh, Mega ground straps, uh power
distribution block, uh headlight relays w/ spiffy base plate, uh
transaxle attention, reconditioning? Hmmm... Running out of ideas.
