Your car isn't high maintenance because its a Scirocco.  It's high 
maintenance because it is 12 years old and maybe hasn't been taken care of 
very well by previous owners, so you are stuck fixing the little things that 
come along.  In my experience of owning 14 various VWs including 5 
Sciroccos, the Sciroccos were the most trouble free.
