I can easily imagine a 16v rocco being faster than a non turbocharged
model of the 944 (IIRC, the 0-60 times were pretty close); I'd think the
Porsche would handle better, though that's just a guess on my part.

Someone on the list has a 944 (I think).  Care to comment?
