As someone has pointed out already, this seems to be
something that happens when a more aggressive cam(s) are
added. Look at Jim's curves, or Josh's. If I remember
correctly, they don't show that torque dip around 3k. Air
velocity probably drops enough right there due to longer
duration on the intake cam...best answer I can think of.
I do know it probably doesn't have anything to do with
the electronics, as I have a similar dip there going from
CIS-E to Motronic. Although, the Motronic took a big bite
out of it and made it not quite a severe.
