NOT MY CAR!! Thought I would let you guys know about this one!




88 16V for sale. 160k miles. White exterior, black interior $1500. This was 
the first new car I purchased out of college. I'm now married and have a kid 
and don't have any more time to do the research and the periodic weekend 
maintainance that these cars seems to need. Never been in accident, body in 
excellent condition. Interior is nearly perfect. Engine runs fine. Doesn't 
burn oil. Car is used in California for ~10 years until I moved to Seattle. 
Definitely no rust etc. Here is the recent new stuff/key repairs and some 
known problems - new clutch at new dimensions of santa clara/ca at 100k. - 
better grounding recently to eliminate hard start. - header exhaust and new 
catalytic convertor at 150k. Know problem areas are 1. Engine sometime 
sputters briefly when decelerating. The knock sensor was changed at ~90k and 
I think that has something to do with it. Otherwise, the engine runs fine. 
If A/C is on, this does not happen. I know all the symptoms but I'm no 
german car machanic and haven't brought it in to VW specialists yet. 2. 
Since engine sputters periodically, the motor mounts seems to go at 20k? 
intervals, the new exhause has crack due to this as well. Anyways, it runs 
fine and great for me. But I need to moved to 4 doors, auto transmission and 
stuff that at this point in my life. I'm looking to sell to someone who has 
knowledge and time to take care of this car. I would take care of it myself
