I have another VW
An 87 Vanagon Westfalia.  I just got back from camping
in the canyon for the weekend.  

With 2 VW's as primary drivers, I am never without a
project.

Vanagon needs - New clutch disc, redline MTL
Scirocco needs - new steering gear, rear stubs,
backing plates & brake lever

Both need
Body work & paint jobs

And if all else fails - 1998 Specialized RockHopper
FS1, K2 Rollerblades & a pair of hiking boots - I love
living in small towns where it is safe to be mobile
sans vehicle.

And in other 'Rocco news - did y'all know that a
non-power steering gear runs over $500 from the
stealership???  I found one for $71 from a trusted
vendor, but DAMN!  $500 for a bar with a gear on it...
Mine has a chipped tooth, so there is this big flat
spot that the wheels like to rest in at about 20deg to
the right.  Makes driving more interesting.  Of
course, I don't find out about it until AFTER I have
the new tie-rods on and Alignment done....

And if anyone is curious - the front end rebuild made
a HUGE difference.  If this is what it was like to
drive these cars when they were new, I can see why
they are still a cult vehicle today.
