Re: 120A alternator: hp drain
I had the same question before, because i wanted to upgrade my alternator.
Use this formula: P=IV, that is power = current * voltage
So we have P=what we want to find, I=120A-90A=30A, V=12V
30A*12V=360 Watts
Use a quick little conversion of 1hp=745.6998 watts and you get
approximately .482768 hp.
So you lose about a 1/2 hp. Well worth the amperage gains for a bumpin'
stereo system, or whatever, IMHO.
