FWIW, I have never needed a steering wheel puller on any of the VW's I've
ever owned.  I don't think they have a tapered steering column like most
vehicles do.  Just remove the large nut and washer, and pull wheel off (of
course, don't hit yerself in the chin - if that's a concern, leave the nut
threaded on a few turns)
