16v engine noise/lower t-belt cover
Ever since I replaced my cam drive belt last year, the car has made a
constant whirring sound whose pitch increases with engine speed. I ignored
it for a while until two weeks ago when my belt broke, bending all 8 intake
valves. I replaced the valves, put the head on, and got it running in time
the the autox last sunday. However, i'm still getting that same noise. The
old belt, and the new belt look as if they are rubbing on something on the
edges. The outside of the belt also looks as if it is rubbing on something.
When I put the new belt on I inspected the lower cover and everything around
the belt path for wear marks and found nothing. I also replaced the
tensioner, which was only three years old anyway. I also replaced the lower
cover which was sort of warped, (from heat?)
Has anyone ever had this noise and discovered it's origin? I think I'm going
to just remove the lower cover altogether. Anyone feel that this is a bad
Idea?
Thanks in advance
