Help with `82 Scirocco (follow-up)

Thanks to everyone who replied, but I've checked all of those things and it 
still won't idle.  I have no idea what could be wrong.  All of my 
replacement parts were new except the warm-up regulator.  Before I changed 
it, the car took forever to start and would only idle after it had warmed-up 
for about ten minutes.  After I replaced it the car would fire right up and 
would idle as long as it was sitting parked. Most of the time when I drove 
it, it would idle at stoplights but sometimes it died. Then one day it 
started idling just fine and I drove it all day without any problems and 
that night the fuel pump went out. A few days later I put on a brand new 
fuel pump and the car refuses to idle at all.
I'm sorry to have to post again, but I don't know what else to do.  This is 
the first time I've not been able to fix one of my own cars and I'm 
reluctant to take it to a mechanic.Thanks.
