Good observation, Kris. I remember that article from back in the day.
That Bimmer was the total inspiration for this Rocco. Warhol's picture
is even in the article.

I'm pretty sure there were 2 of these Warhol M1's in the BMW museum in 
Spartanburg SC.  I know I remember at least one.   He painted them with a 
brush and you can see the brushstrokes.  I thought it was cool as hell.
