Or you can check for end play by pulling/pushing on the crank pully...

When you had the pan off you could have checked the play in the rods at the
crank.
The two rod knocking motors I have seen you could grab the rod and move it
forward and back (perpindicular) to the crank and make it knock on your own
.
Dont know about just swapping out bearings never done that or had a "new"
motor .
