There's no need to disconnect the caliper to do this - the piston will push 
back in still connected to the brake line. Unscrewing the brake fluid 
reservoir cap makes it slightly easier. You can get a special tool to push 
the piston back in or alternatively, use a large screwdriver between the 
piston and the back of the old pad ( before you unbolt the carrier ) to ease 
the piston back in.
