You'll pay for that lazyness.

Your oil is too thin. or, it thins out when its hot. Try using a
multiviscous oil. 20W50 isn't a good year round oil for most of you 4
season freaks. For the summer months, you can use it safely. Just don't
forget to change it back to the weight oil you use for the freezer
months.

I trust that he has done an oil pressure test?? Simply checking what the
oil pressure is will tell you if you need a new oil pump. There should be
no guess work here. it either is fine, or it needs one. Then again, it
never hurts to replace the oil pump. Especially if it does have 200K on
it. $200?? Ouch! Id sure hate to have to pay someone to work on my
car(s).

One doesn't have any relation to the other. Also keep in mind that most
engines run their best just before they blow up. I offer any Nascar event
where a motor lets go. Listen to the driver, they always say the same
thing. "It was running great, then KAPOW!" Ive also experienced the same
thing myself, runs its strongest, just before the rod knock sounds
started.

"hey don't worry everything will be ok". Anything else you want to hear?
Im easy.
I think if I were you, id go ahead and replace the oil pump. Have the
mechanic use 20w50 oil when he refills the motor. if those 2 changes
don't make the lifters stop clicking, then the only other thing you can
do is have the lifters replaced. ($170+ from Potterman.) That should fix
the problem for you.
