RE: Valve tap dilemna...

I had/have the exact same problem as have other litst members.I have run no
more than 1.2 bar of oil pressure in my 16V for the past four years. I got
so sick of the oil pressure buzzer I un-soldered it. VW said my motor no
more than a couple of days till it seized....that was four years ago at
120K, Im now at 216K miles. I have replaced all pressure senders, all
components of the dynamic oil pressure warning system crap including the
brain. Rod and main bearings, oil pump, oil cooler...the entire oil system
except for the piston squirters. Still no oil pressure. Ive been over
numerous times on the list over the past three years and come to no
conclusion. It shouldnt be running. Its impossible. Im reading the guage
wrong and so on. But its fact. I also have pretty horrible valve tap. Now I
think my car has ate the thrust bearing, i dobut this is becuase of the oil
pressure (i used the older style thrust bearing and had to change both rod
and main bearing with the motor in the car), the car has alot of VERY hard
miles and after my recent purchase of a euro cam saw 7300rpm daily...with
1.2 bar.

What should you do....first put new pressure senders in. VW actually had a
service bulliten on the dynamic oil pressure wanring system and false high
side alarms. They are cheap and take less then 10 minutes to change.

Second, take it to a reputable shop and have them test the pressure at
various RPMs to be certain....do this before buying an oil pump.

Three if indeed the pressure was low...buy a oil pump and change it
yourself...they run around 150 or so and take 2 hours to change. The hardest
part about the swap is the damn oil pan bolts.

Four post your results to the list and well take it from there hehe.....

Subject: Valve tap dilemna...

I have a nasty valve tap. It is so bad, I am afraid to drive the car.

I have had a problem with the oil pressure forever (lazy bum). The oil
pressure light comes on in the dash and buzzes whenever I abuse the engine,
it will do this off and on when the engine is hot.

It has been suggested to me by my mechanic (a guy I trust fully) that since
I have over 200,000 that I should start by replacing my oil pump. He said he
will do the job for $ 200.00 parts and labor. He also said that my
engine seems strong, so he doesn't think I have done any damage to anything.
He thinks that the valves are collapsing and that accounts for the light /
buzz, the tapping, and the loss of power...I guess I am looking for
ressurance from the list like "hey don't worry everything will be ok"...I
don't burn oil or push any smoke from the exhaust...I do have a leaky
injector and I will be looking to get them replaced / cleaned as well...Any
suggestions.
