Yes, it has been done.. see scirocco.org for some pics of a banana-
yellow one that has appeared at the last couple of Waterfests.

But why?  If all you want to do is go in a straight line, it might
be kinda fun.. but most of the fun in driving a 'roc is tossing it
around.  With a VR6 weighing down the front end, it would be turned
into an ill-handling pig..  :0
