Re: AutoX
If you want to pass tech you will definately need the following:
1. Good battery tie down with no movement in the battery
2. Good bearings on all four corners with very little play if any
3. Working throttle return springs and no catching of the linkage under return
4. Tires that are showing no cord
5. No leaking fluids - cracked hoses - belts tight
6. Cooling system in great shape (You sometimes have to sit in grid for a while)
7. Remove hubcaps or centercaps not bolted on
8. Helmet with proper certification (Or you may be able to borrow a loaner)
9. Solid brake pedal feel - Seat belts not frayed or cut - no cuts in carpet
around the accelerator (Big Miata problem)
10. Remove everything loose from the interior - mats - spare tire if it is
not securely tied down.
For tires you want to have 13" on a rabbit to be competitive in a street
prepared class - however your mods have already bumped you to
prepared or SM (Cam). I would say run what you have for now and
concentrate on keeping the car in good mechanical shape so you dont have
to worry about it at events. Then concentrate on your driving and ask lots
and lots of questions. Try to get into a novice program to get instruction.
Walk the coure at least 4-5 times each morning until you can remember it in
your head.
And most of all be humble. An experienced autocrosser can probably jump
in your car and beat you by 3-4 seconds. The driver is the biggest factor in
autocrossing - Not the car.
Have fun.
