RE: NON-ROC Canadian Rabbits

I believe Westmoreland was closed in 87 or 88 - at that time production of
North American consumption Golfs was shifted to Mexico. Prior to that,
North American Golfs (including GTIs) were assembled there. The exception
to this was the Cabrio, and *possibly* (although I'm not sure) the
Wolfsburg Edition Golf - but I kind of doubt it.

I believe that the only models produced there were the Rabbit, Rabbit
Pickup (aka the Caddy) and Golfs (although VW's EPC software would lead
you to believe that Jettas may have been produced there - it lists Jetta
(USA) when you're selecting a model...)

You can always tell a Westmoreland VW by its plethora of American-sourced
parts, like interior trim bits, electrical bits and wiring. Mexican-built
versions used the same parts (excepting those specific to the North
American market, like headlights) as their German counterparts.

BTW, The 85 GTI made it as an Import because the company making it (VW),
was foreign, not because the car was actually assembled in a foreign
country.
