tach help please

  after thouroughly going over the coil last night and comparing to my
other scirocco, everything seems to be hooked up correctly. there is a
green wire and red wire on top. a wire running to the cap and two black
wires on the bottom. in addition there is a ground running to the valve
cover. any ideas on why my tach still isn't working? need to know soon.
