Spare tire donut.

Just got a flat today. Had it repaired. Driving there on the donut, the tire 
was was destroyed. The guy at Discount tried to sell me a full size spare. 
It was too big for the compartment, so I passed. Anyway, he implied that I 
would need to get a spare donut tire from VW. It's just a Continental. Are 
these tires hard to get?
