Incorrect valve timing?
My friend has a scirocco he bought recently, which has problems with poor
power & it is reluctant to idle when it's warmed-up. I did a compression
test on it yesterday and the results were pretty low - 115-120psi on all
cylinders. There isn't a lot of blow-by pressure in the crankcase so I'm
assuming that the piston rings aren't shot.
Could incorrect valve timing give this type of symptom? I'm guessing that
maybe if the valve timing is retarded then part of the charge is being lost
before the valves close, hence the low pressure & low power.
Any ideas?
