Re: Rebuilding the 2.0//final drives
Well, here's how I calculate that:
First off, I assume a 195/50ZR15 tire - 22.68in outside diameter, 71.24in
circumference.
Then, we have a motor turning at 7000rpm. First it goes through a .71 5th
gear, let's say, bumping it up to 9859.2rpm or so. Then it goes
through the 4.25 final drive, bringing it down to 2319.8 or so rpm. Now we
figure out inches per minute - multiply 71.24 by 2319.8 and get 165268.35
in/minute. Now let's get feet per minute - 13772.36 or so. Now let's get
miles per minute by dividing by 5280 - 2.61 or so. Now let's get miles
per hour by multiplying by 60 - 156.50mph, give or take.
OTOH, my Rabbit, with a 3.79 final drive and a .71 5th gear, at
6500rpm (about as high as it has useful power, if it ran - heh), WOULD do
162.96mph if it had about 340bhp at 6500rpm (remember, the difference
between the two trannies would be bigger if we were talking about the same
rpm).
