Re: H&R Coilovers vs Bilstein Sports/HR springs
Coilovers rock! You do get a better ride for the extra money. With
coilovers you use a shorter shock body which allows more damping travel than
lowering a standard length shock. Look at this HPA website for a graphical
representation of this. <http://www.hpamotorsports.com/kw_susp.htm>
The coilover suspension has more travel than the lowered suspension. You
still have less travel than stock, but your spring rate is going to be more
linear since the spring is at the end of its usable range like the lowered
spring is. A coilover suspension actually feels softer than a lowered
standard suspension. But, the coilover suspension still has great cornering
you would expect from a lowered suspension. It really is the best of both
worlds: great ride and great performance.
As an added bonus, you can adjust ride height for proper corner balancing.
Most guys with show cars have coilovers so they can slam their cars for show
and raise them for normal use.
The only negative about coilover suspension (other than the high price) is
that it will bump you into a tougher class if you autocross.
