Mine cost the PO a total of $900 from the boneyard, for the complete motor
(out of '91 Passat), with only 40k on the clock.  Plenty of motors around,
I think Ron's Parts still does lots of used engines, your local boneyard
is another source, etc.  

If you're even considering doing it - DO IT!!  It's an awesome upgrade.
