Battery size

Hello list,

So I am about to get a new battery.  The book at the store says i should get 
a battery that has 500 amps for the Scirocco.  What is everyone else using?  
The reason I ask is because, When I a look for windscreen wipers they always 
have the wrong size.  

If the car calls for a battery that has 500 amps, What would happen if I get 
one that has 600 amps.  Wouldn't it be better, or would it cause problems.
