ABS retrofit?

	By now, ABS has been around long enough where it's probably available off 
wrecked VWs.  Can the ABS system be retrofitted to a Mk.1 by rational means? 
  Are the components and brain a stand-alone system or is it an integral 
part of say, the engine management maps?  I'm assuming as a minimum, 
sensors, brain, and pumps will be required.  Anyone tackled this or 
seriously thought this through?  benton-------
