Hmmmm, that sounds about right for the GX. if i were you, i would bolt a JH 40/33 solid lifter head on there w/ the a g-grind :) but thats just me
I dont know if the higher compression comes from piston design or a smaller combustion chamber in the head. My guess would be the head. if it's only 9.0:1 you dont really need high octane. I'm running 9.5:1 w/ a shaved JH head and i can run 87 octane just fine
