Question for MkI owners with 16V brake setups

I noticed when I was hooking up all my under dash wiring that the brake
lights were on all the time.  Turns out that the switch doesn't touch the
pedal arm.  There is a little space there.  So I'm wondering if I need to
shorten the pushrod length or what.  Did anyone else run into this?
