I use the following "trick" to translate l/100km to mpg:
Divide 283 by your l/100km and you get miles per Imp gallon (I use this to
help my metric challenged friends understand how good the mileage is with
my diesels).
Divide 236 by your l/100km and you get miles per US gallon.
10L/100km = 28.3 mpg Imperial (283/10=28.3)
10L/100km = 23.6 mpg US (236/10=23.6)
