This backs up what I heard at the LA show.  You must take the V6 and auto,
but it can be either GLX or GLS.  It's a $1650 option (the 4wd that is).

According to the literature I got from the VW stand at the Detroit show:

4Motion is available with both the GLS and GLX trim levels, but only with
the V6 and Tiptronic.  It is available in both the sedan and the wagon.

I have a couple of pics of the show car if anyone is interested.
