Here are my thoughts on the subject - don't even mention the possibility of
parting it out until you know what's going on.  I'm not one of the guys
hoping to get any of the parts (as  most people know, I have more than
enough already), but I can relate to how they might feel.

'88 TDI???   Or just a normal turbo diesel?   If it's a real TDI, did you
put it in?  I'd love to hear more about it...
