Well... bascially the ignition is the only thing you
should have, and I'm living proof that you don't HAVE to do
that. The p.o. of my '80 S (friend of mine) swapped an RD
into the car a couple years ago but kept the old points
ignition. He claims to never have had a problem, and so
far I haven't either, though I've only had it since
October. The one thing he did do was install a very low
temperature thermostat. (The needle never gets near the
light) My future plans include upgrading to the later
ignition w/ knock sensor though, 'cuz I'm not wild about
points. I can tell you this - it makes for a pretty nice
performing Scirocco. :)
The displacement is 1781 for the diferent

A lot of it had to do with compression. The JH is 8.5 - 1,
RD is something like 10 - 1.
