[8v tech] Audi 3A engine swap
I'm seriously considering swapping in an Audi 3A engine from an Audi 80,
into my '86 8V. I want to keep things relatively simple, like sticking
with CIS and the existing exhaust system.
Some questions:
Is it okay to keep my 8V cylinder head? I've read that I will need a new
oil pump in this case -- could someone explain why? I'm also considering
replacing the cylinder head with the type with hydraulic lifters; would
any requirements change in this case?
What is the minimum set of parts I'll need? As I understand it (assuming I
can use my existing head):
- 3A short block
- knock sensor harness
- Audi 80 distributor
- 3A oil pan
- 3A oil pump
- various nuts and bolts
Has anyone on the list done a similar conversion? Any
comments/tips/war-stories would be much appreciated!
Cheers
Oliver
