I have polished the intake on my 16v, which is similar to that of
a 8v in that they are both made of cast aluminum. The first step
would be to smooth out the casting marks with a 150 grit sandpaper
and a *lot* of time! After you get a nice consistent finish with
that sandpaper, I would just progress using 220, 400, 600, and
then finish off with a good rubbing compound and polish. I did
my manifold by hand and it turned out not bad...not professional
though...I imagine that with much time and patience a very nice
finish could be achieved.
(I just lost patience after the third week of sanding... hehe)
Some listers that I know *hmmm* have just spent the big
bucks and had the polishing done by a machine shop. Looks the
best doing it that way, but costs a bit...
