3A vs 9A

i scored a 3A block from an audi 80 today and was curious if anyone knew
the differences between that block and a 9A block......from what i can
tell, it's just the pistons.......

the reason that i ask is that a friend of mine at work needs a 2.0l 16v
block and was considering whatever he got bored out atleast once anyway
(going to buy new pistons anyway).....can i just get a set of 16v pistons
and swap then in?...
