Electrical problem-Brakes

I just saw that I have no brake lights, All fuses check good with a test
light so I checked for power to the switch on the master cylinder, got power
to the switch. I unplugged the electrical connection to the switch and put a
jumped wire from the hot side to the other side and I got brake lights! 64K
question does this mean that I need a brake switch? Any help would be
greatly appreciated.
