Having had my tank repaired under the VW campaign, some advice:

1. This is for 1986.5 -1988 VW Scirocco 16V's only, not for the 8V models,
despite them sharing a common part number...

2. Call VWoA first and get the campaign number. Take that to the dealer when
you go to use as leverage. VW only pays the dealer 2.5 hours labor for the
campaign, even a good mechanic will be hard pressed to do this in under 3
hours. Your dealer WILL NOT want to do this if they think they can avoid it.

3. Make it easier on your dealer and yourself by offering to replace some of
the old lines, etc. that are likely going to break when they remove them
anyway - at least the dealer has the opportunity to recover some of their
cost on your parts purchase. You get the benefit of new parts on your car
you don't have to worry about again for a long time.

4. Be firm with your dealer, argue from expertise, but don't be a dickhead
about it. The really do want you as a customer, help them to do so and you
both get something from the deal.
