Im shopping for a new rocco or raddo. update on recent looks.
Hey yall,
If anybody is interested, I can give updates to all the cars that I go
around looking at now the Sean of Cicinnati is the proud owner of my old
80 rocco.(warning little bit of a rant in this post about the seller of
the 88) I did NOT buy this car. It is still for sale.
Well today I went and looked at a 88 rocco in birminham AL.
if you look on auto trader at VW, 30313, any price scirocco 200mi radius

the ad.
1988 VOLKSWAGEN SCIROCCO, 16V, 5-speed,
new tires, rad., timing belt, water
pump, clutch,
shocks, sacrifice $1400 or best
offer, call
205-871-4200 or 205-862-2356.
Detail here is becuase I dont know all the ins and outs of the mark II's
this is an 88 almost Karmann edition(will clarify later).
White outside(faded pearl),black interior.
the body is as near to rust free as I have seen. the dash looked in good
shape. seats are out of a standard 16v I think cause I thought the
Karrmann was a leather edition. the seats in it were black with gray
stripes running from door - door direction in the center of the seats
(typical) sunroof in working order, both for the raise the back and slide
it in.(didnt run it all the way back) seat felt weird . I was jacked up
almost to the roof. (yes i pulled the eject lever and sat it all the way
down).
has ground effects. I think this is to cover the damage along the bottom
of the car. Effects are fiber glass. front spoiler is tie-wrapped in
several places along the front thru the screw holes. Oh. the lift points
are bowed up from poor jacking. body panels very good shape except for a
line about 12-15" long along the drivers door horizontal between the two
trime lines that is about 1/2" wide that is about 1/6 in deep and rounded.
no I have no idea how it got there.
Details of the seller and "work" he has done.
New tires are (crap forgot to check the size) BF Goodrich Euro TA's very
nearly new."cool rims" made by eagle five spoke as seen in the picture.
Shocks were claimed to be KYB gas. New Radiator is HUGE is this normal?.
rest of it dunno. I didnt drive this car except to repark it. The shifting felt
"loose" and clutch felt like a hydraulic clutch this is prolly dumb but i
dont know what they were equipt with. There was no positve feel like in
the 80 rocco. just kinda squishy.
couldnt verify anything else.
When I called the seller he told me that the odometer said there 035xxx
which is true, however when I contacted carfax. a few years ago a sale was
done w/ 131xxx miles on it. (suspicion #1) Looked at the engine. the top
of it was fairly clean looked like they half heartedly pressure cleaned
it. so I jacked it up a little adn crawled underneath. needless to say
I've seen high mileage cars/VW's before 35xxx doesnt build up this much
junk. BTW this guy runs a garage. I dont trust him after that whopper. I
drove from Atlanta -- Birmingham to look at it. bastard!
report of mechanics.
motor sunds good. If I were buying it I would replace main bearings as i
dont trust him. But I didnt hear any rod knocking or lifter noise at all!
not sure whether that is good or bad! with this guy.
both inner CV boots torn.
both outer steering rack boots torn.
power sterring fluid on hoses that that run under the radiator.
oil leak from Back of valve cover.
possible oil leak from head gasket passenger side rear. could be from
valve cover too nasty to tell.
this one has a small anti-sway bar underneath. 12-15mm guess had to
eyeball it
stock brake lines.
rotors appear normal.
brakes squishy..(like every VW/car I have ever drove! motorcycle brakes
rock!)
interior.
power mirror driver side worked.
mirror passenger side class spiderwebbed.
back hatch held up with shocks in cold on own without hitting me in the
head. space saver spare tire. no stereo was wired for amplifier at one
time. something missing under glove box. as the carpet had a square cut
out w/ nothing there actually under the glove box.
Opinion.
If you want a project car this is a good place to start. I need a commuter
and at $1400 this was too much for me. to start a rebuild.
I found no rust, but I was under a street light too. I did not see any
obvious bondo marks or body ripple from a frame restraighten.
there you go.
Im done ranting. this guy just seems very slimy. to me. But then again it
could be my prejedices against russians. Im a child of the 80's....
