Re: BREAK IN-alarm success
As a victim of three break-ins in my roc in three months way back in
1985, I sympatise with you.
I say lock them in a car with a high-power stereo, and blast them for
an hour with "Double Dutch Bus" :-)
A bit of history:
I got an alarm system then, and changed my habits: I always park in a
*conspicuous* place, from which no one can run without being seen. The
noise of the alarm will get the attention of potential witnesses. If
that means parking in a no-parking zone, so be it. A parking ticket is
much cheaper than the aggravation of a break-in.
My insurance premium went through the roof, 300%. I went without
personal coverage for two years.
The practice of parking in a conspicuous place saved me a lot of grief
during a freezing rain evening: someone who did not know you need winter
tires in Toronto slammed into my PARKED roc in a shopping mall parking
lot, taking the front left fender. He tried to pull away, but without
winter tires, did not have much luck. But a cook at a fast food joint
heard the alarm, came out knife in hand and got him to fill out his
name, address, phone number, insurance co name and contract number.
When I came back, I was in shock, but the info gathered by the cook
allowed me to go after the driver for the full repairs done at the
dealer: over $3500 Canadian, including new suspension, fender, paint
job, etc.
