after bragging to my roommate last night about how
reliable my car has been in the 5 years i've owned it, it promptly died on me
today (serves me right). it had been running perfectly, and i haven't done
anything to it since september. i slowed down at a light, i looked down at my
instruments, and my alt light (and i think oil pressure) was on. i had stalled,
but hadn't noticed cause my radio was on. that was it. didn't restart. turns
over fine, doesn't catch at all. had it towed home (love AAA), no spark at the
plugs. time for bentley. according to the book, at terminal 1 (-) of the coil
"while the starter is actuated, the test light should flash (blink or light
up?), indicating that the coil is recieving primary voltage". i have a steady
12v whenever the ignition switch is on, starter engaged or not. i don't know if
that's significant. resistance b/t terminals 1 & 15(+) and 15 & 4 (coil
center tower) is within spec. that's all bentley has on it, but i couldn't get
any voltage out of the center terminal (#4) when i grounded it. it should
produce a constant, high voltage whenever the starter is turning/engine running,
correct? so it seems like my coil to me, but i wanted to check with you guys b/c
of that primary voltage statement. whaddya think? i'm stranded, so the quicker
the better.
