Axle shaft/CV question on Automatics

Does anyone know if the autmatic Scirocco has the same CV/axle shaft
assembly as the 5 speed cars?  I figure the shaft length is the same, but
maybe I'm wrong.  How about the CV diameter?   I am replacing an automatic
in an '86 with one from an '81.  And yes I know the best thing to do is
replace it with a 5speed but that will have to wait(must save money for
wedding)
