Thanks for your suggestion. I thought of this too, but it just seems weird
that my battery doesn't have any problems starting the car over and over
again after it dies.

Actually your theory should be easy for me to test as I have the alternator
from my Rabbit GTI that I can throw on the Scirocco.

I'm willing to give it a try.
