Price on a 4K tranny, or, how much will replacing my output shaft bearings cost?

Seeing as how my tranny leaks copious amounts of Mobil1 tranny lube
everywhere I go, I'm in need of replacing my output shaft bearings (as
are other listers).  I don't want to do it, and I think I'll take it to
the local VW gurus and have them tear it apart.  Any idea how much labor
is involved in the repair?  Would I be better off getting a new (used)
tranny?
Also, any body shoppers out there have any idea if bosy shops will cut
the holes for my fender-mount directionals?  I haven't had time to stop
by the body shop yet to see if they'll do it.
