16V Ram Air Driving Impressions
I promised myself I would take the weekend off from working
on the car but it was not to be. I went on a cruise Saturday
and was able to shut down some very modified Stage 3 and 4
G60 Corrados so I had to have more. I fixed my jury rigged
upper coolant hose and put on a Ram Air setup. The setup
work better than I thought it would, I was
thinking I would
only see a very slight difference at speed but
after driving
home last nite and into to work this morning Im
finding that it
does alot for upper rev range throttle response.
Mind you the
temp out is pretty cool and dense, I have yet to
test it on
the strip where heat soaking is a problem. The
car responds
and spins up faster around 3500-3800 rpm and
pulls to redline
much quicker. Keep in mind I dont feel much of a
difference in
any gear but 4th and 5th. I found racing the
G60s that I had
to downshift, they would walk by me if I left it
in fifth, but
with this setup 5th feels alot crisper and
kicking it down to
4th is great! The only drawback is....well with
3inch dryer
hose it looks pretty funny. But after driving
the car I can
handle the laughter, just call me snorkel boy!
Putting it in was a snap, just get some 3inch
dryer hose and a
small heating duct reducer and some zip ties and
you're done.
You may run into problems if your battery is not
relocated into
the rear but instead of using a place in the
grill you could put
the inlet down below the front airdam. The last
pic was before
I had trimmed the hose down to make only one
bend before it
goes around the power blocks. I still need to
get a new
un-cut lower airbox since mine is swiss cheesed
and I imagine
I loose some ram air effect through those holes.
Also you
cannot see the scoop behind my grill.
Anyways....pics up on my site
www.scirocco16v.com in the new mods section.
Thank you for your time.
