tranny parts compatibility

i'm trying to build up a transmission....i am going to use a 16v box and
put a quaife in and do a 5th gear conversion.....both of the 16v boxes i
have to do this with have slight wear on the output flanges, but i was
hoping to use a set of flanges from a A3 transmission that i picked up
(cracked case on the 5th gear portion, but great condition everywhere
else).....but i thought vw had changed the type of output flanges that they
used from a spring type used on the older transmissions to a type that you
need a puller to remove......is this correct?...does it matter since i'm
installing a quaife?.......(they're both 020 transmissions and they only
make 1 version of the differential for that series)...can i put the output
flanges from the A3 onto a 16v box?....
